Surviving A Kitchen Remodel

Surviving A Kitchen Remodel

Remodeling your kitchen can be a long and painful process. A major part of your house is being taken apart and reassembled. If you try to do it yourself, it could take weeks, or even months. You could stumble upon things that you didn’t even know were a problem, making the remodel even more difficult than originally thought. If you hire a professional, things tend to run smoother and quicker because they have the knowledge to deal with anything that comes up smoothly and quickly. If you do opt for a kitchen remodel, there are a few things that you can do to make your time without a kitchen more bearable.

Temporary Kitchen

Make yourself a temporary kitchen area. Move your refrigerator to another part of the house for the time being while the kitchen is under renovation. If you are getting rid of your currently refrigerator, you can go for just a mini fridge to take the place temporarily. Camping stoves work in a pinch, but you can also make use of your grill and your microwave. There are plenty of options out there.

Set Up A Table

Don’t just grab and go. Take the time to set up a table where the whole family can still get together and eat as a family. This will make a big difference in morale. If you can’t fit your normal dining table, try a folding table or a couple of card tables put together. Whatever you can fit in your space, you can make it work.

Non-Perishables

Make use of meals that can be made out of non-perishable items. Tuna in a can, macaroni and cheese, and other family favorites can be made fairly easily and with no refrigeration needed. Make use of other cooking elements like the grill for boiling water or for making pizza. Think outside the box and you’ll come up with some fun alternatives to your usuals.

Slow Cooker

Use your crockpot to make meals in advance. With a little bit of planning, you can prep a meal in the morning and it will be ready to eat by dinner time. All you need is an electrical outlet to cook an entire meal. You can make pasta, dessert, soups, and more in the crockpot for a healthy family meal right t your fingertips.

Gift Cards

Plan ahead and stock up on gift cards before the renovation starts. Cash in your credit card points and any gift cards you’ve gotten for birthdays and holidays. Eating out can get expensive and having a few gift cards to use on the nights when it is just too hard to get coordinated can be a lifesaver.
