When Should You Give Your Home A Remodel?

It could be a thought that has been slowly creeping its way into your head. Or, it could happen suddenly, like an alarm clock going off. Either way, you may be realizing you want to remodel. But, you’re worried about the process. Maybe you’re worried about saying “Go” and beginning the project. No need to worry – we at Cardigan are here for you. When is the best time for you to remodel?
Ultimately, It’s About Comfort
If you’ve become fed up with your space as it is, it may be time for you to undergo a remodel. Perhaps your kitchen or bathroom has become worn-out or dated, and you simply need a change. Remodeling could solve the problems you’ve encountered by being bored with your current space.
Finding a contractor that you can trust and place confidence in will go a long way toward putting you at ease and allowing you to begin your project. You should also be comfortable with your budget. Your contractor should give you an expected project cost that you are comfortable with, and can afford. Being stressed about your project’s budget will not bode well in the long run.
Also, be sure your remodeling timetable fits your schedule. Your contractor should be able to tell you how long the project is expected to take to complete – some remodels can take a couple months. Although it will certainly be worth it in the long run, you should recognize that your life will be slightly inconvenienced during this time. You may not have access to things you would typically have access to. You should factor this into your decision to remodel – for example, it may not be the best idea to undergo an extensive kitchen remodel right after you’ve brought home a newborn baby!
You May Not Have A Choice
Sometimes, remodels are done out of necessity. An appliance, such as an oven, dies. You’ve selected a new oven that you love, but you realize it won’t quite fit where your old appliance was. The solution? A remodel. Or, upon removing the old appliance, you realize hidden damage that you had been unaware of, causing you to have to repair your floors, walls, or plumbing.
Thinking Of Remodeling?
If you’re thinking of remodeling, be sure to check out our Planning Guide today, which will walk you through the four planning phases for your remodel:
- Defining Your Parameters
- Taking Inventory
- Drawing Your Floor Plan
- Sketching Your Idea
Being satisfied with the design process is the first step to a successful remodel. If you are hesitant about the design before the project begins, you will not be satisfied with the end result. Take time in the planning stage to create the remodel that you’re looking for. Don’t move forward with the project until you are satisfied with the design.
